Mailing Your Tax Bill

During this time of the year, people ask me - when are we going to mail the tax bills? Well, here is how it works:
The Property Appraiser certifies the tax roll to our office . This year that took place on Monday November 2nd. By law we have twenty working days to get the bills mailed and be open for collection.

Through January 2009 we are about 1% behind where we were at this point last year.
Don't Take Chance With Insufficient Funds

Each year our office takes in over $500,000 in bad checks mostly for property taxes.
The days of "floating" your money writing a check has long past and there are substancial penalties for taking the risk.
We recently reposted an article on our website showing the additional cost involved in writing a bad check; and put information in our tax bill insert. It is also explained on the back of the tax bill.

A $2,000 tax bill with a bad check will result in a $100 (5%) fee.
