Tax Collector Bulletin # 2010-03
February 26, 2010
Phone Number Required Beginning March 1
Effective March 1, 2010, a telephone number (10-digits including area code) will be required on hunting and fishing license and permit sales. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) are now requiring this information from us for the purpose of improving fish and wildlife harvest data.
Q: What does this mean for me and my customers?
A: If the customer already has a telephone number on file, you will not see a change. If the customer is new or a telephone number was not entered on their original transaction, you will be prompted to either enter a telephone number or cancel the transaction.
Q: What if a customer doesn’t have or refuses to provide a telephone number?
A: If no telephone number is provided then the system will allow you to either enter one or cancel the transaction.
Q: How will this new requirement affect limited entry or quota permits that are issued first-come first-served?
A: The telephone number will not be required on limited entry or quota permit transactions (i.e. special opportunity, recreational use, quota, alligator, etc), and therefore will not affect your customers chances of obtaining a permit.
Q: Why is this information being required?
A: As a part of the NOAA Marine Recreational Fisheries of the United States, National Saltwater Angler Registry Program, and the USFWS Migratory Bird Harvest Information Program, angler and hunter contact information is required in order to improve harvest information used for preparing management policies. This information will also be useful to the FWC in preparing management policies as well.
