Manatee County Tax Collector Achieves Excellence in Finance Operations Award

Manatee County Tax Collector Ken Burton Jr., was among the recipients of the Excellence in Finance Operations Award presented by the Florida Tax Collectors Inc. at their annual Fall Education Forum held in Orlando. This was the inaugural year for the award which encompasses Innovation, Customer Focus, Budget (ensuring Budget to Actual percentages are within reason) and Audit (clean audit report with no management letter comments). Other Tax Collectors receiving the award were Brevard, Charlotte, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Martin, Nassau, Palm Beach, Sarasota and Walton Counties.
 
A Certificate of Merit (clean audits with no management letter comments) was also presented to the Manatee County Tax Collector’s office along with Brevard, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Martin, Nassau, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Santa Rosa, Sarasota and Walton Counties.
 
“I am very proud of my Financial Services department for doing a tremendous job every day for the citizens of Manatee County,” said Burton. “Director of Financial Services Steve Riley and his accounting team of Nowell Routh, Antonia Medina, Angie Ford, and Tanya Ranney are to be commended for their innovation, customer focus, excellence and accountability, integrity and respect which are some of the core values of our office.”
 
Since becoming Tax Collector in 1993, the Ken Burton Jr. always has earned a clean audit and no management letter comments. The office received the prestigious Florida Governor’s Sterling Award in May.
