Karen Prater is the Manatee County Tax Collector Employee of the Second Quarter (Published 04-17-2018)
Karen Prater was named Employee of the Quarter by the Manatee County Tax Collector's Office. In 2010, Karen began her career as a part-time receptionist. After a few months, she completed the training to become a full-time associate in 2011. Since then she has been a trainer, served on the Employee Special Activities Fund Team planning office-wide events and is a member of the Step-Up Program for the Customer Solutions and Associate Development Department (CSAD). She was designated as Assistant-Manager-In-Training (AMIT) in 2017."Karen is always willing to do whatever is asked of her and she does it with a smile," said Tax Collector Ken Burton, Jr. "She volunteers for projects and extra assignments, just recently representing our office at the Naturalization Information Session held by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. She presented a session that was well received on how to obtain driver licenses and identification cards, answering questions and helping those in attendance. We value her contributions to our office and community."
"Karen always requests more training, more examples, more hands on transactions; she is always improving herself. In turn, she helps train and develop her teammates and new hires," said Tony Conboy, CSAD director. "She assists with special audits, quality control and review, and was the Team Leader at Lakewood Ranch before transferring to the Driver License Office (DLO) to become the AMIT. At the DLO, she has taken a leadership role and developed a new schedule which has been implemented."
"Karen has a 'go get it' attitude and I am very proud to see her growth over the years," said DLO Manager Bobbie Sumbay. "Since assuming the AMIT position, she has taken complete ownership, striving for excellence, celebrating her wins and always keeping a positive attitude. At the DLO she came in soaking in every scenario, learning and embracing all kinds of customers good and bad. If I could say one word about Karen it is 'determined.'"
DeSoto Assistant Manager Judy Palino said, "Karen represents all seven of the Office Core Values."
As Employee of the Quarter, her name is engraved on the trophy; she receives a merit certificate, a reserved parking space, a uni-leave day, gets to name a themed casual day, and receives a free pizza from Demetrio’s Pizza House, Cortez Road.
