Qualifications and requirements

To process your title by mail with our office, you must be a Manatee County resident or be in the process of moving to Manatee County. If you do not meet these qualifications, please contact the tax collector's office in your county of residence to obtain mailing instructions. You may instead contact the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles at (850) 617-2000 for assistance.

Mail packet

To process your title by mail, you must complete a mail packet.

Please review these requirements before you proceed:

  • Once you initiate your transaction by mail, you must complete it by mail; you may not start it by mail and complete it in person.
  • We cannot process title work without a mail packet. Paperwork not accompanied by a complete and accurate mail packet will result in delay or rejection of your transaction and may require us to return all paperwork to the sender.
  • If you are already on "registration only" status, please inform your lienholder or lease company that we cannot process your title. If your lienholder or lease company sends us the title, we must reject and return it.

Additional information for lienholders, lease companies and dealers

Please review these requirements before you proceed:

  • If you initiate your customer's title work by mail, your customer must complete the transaction by mail; we will not notify your customer to come in person to process a title that you sent us. If your customer wishes to process the title in person, you must mail the paperwork directly to your customer instead of to our office.
  • If your customer wishes to add or remove a name, you must mail the title and applicable paperwork directly to the customer to complete the transaction in person at our office.
  • We must reject and return all titles for customers who are already on "registration only" status.

Sending and processing

You must send your mail packet via overnight or certified mail. The sender is responsible for confirming delivery with the mail provider (i.e., Fed Ex, UPS, and USPS).

Turnaround time is 10 business days from receipt of the mail packet. After 10 business days, you may visit the state's website to verify the title statusNew window. Our office will not provide the title status by telephone.

You may access and print the mail packet you need from the list below. Completing a printed mail packet will help you expedite your transaction. Please note that you need to access state forms separately; this helps ensure that you use the most current forms for your transaction.
