New Motor Vehicle and Driver License Fees – Effective September 1, 2009
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:
- In Florida, motor vehicles are renewed annually (1 year at a time) or biennially (2 years at a time). Beginning on September 1, 2009, almost all fees will be going up: some by a large amount!
- Driver licenses have an 8-year renewal cycle for most license classes; these fees will be going up significantly as well.
- Currently, it costs $36.10 to renew a mid-size car like a Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, or similar sized vehicle. On September 1, that fee will be raised to $57.65.
- To title and register a vehicle with a brand new plate, it currently costs approximately $185. On September 1, the same transaction would cost $406.40.
- The current cost to renew your Class E driver license is $25.25 in our office. On September 1, the cost to renew will go up to $54.25.
- Boat fees are going up by a flat rate of $2.00 per-year
- Mobile home fees are going up by $5.25 per-year
- Yes, there is. You can renew your car, truck, mobile home, or boat up to 3 months in advance. If you were born in the months of August, September, October, or November, you can renew early at the current rate.
- August, September and October birthdays can renew now!
- November birthdays can renew beginning in August.
- To save even more money, consider renewing for 2 years – this guarantees your price until 2011, for savings of more than 50%!
- Your driver license can be renewed up to 18 months in advance. If your expiration date is in March of 2011, you can renew early and save more than double the cost of your license!
