Hon. Ken Burton Jr. and other Florida Tax Collectors Address Ongoing State Driver License System Issues (Published 06-15-2021)
Hon. Ken Burton Jr. and colleagues in the Florida Tax Collector's Association recently addressed Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) regarding ongoing issues, including major service interruptions and outages, with the FLHSMV's new ORION driver license system. The system is utilized by tax collector's throughout the state to conduct driver license transactions for customers."We are fortunate to have an appointment only process, as it allows us to contact those that may be affected by the extended outages, reschedule, and keep the impact to a minimum," said Tax Collector Ken Burton Jr. "Changes to programming in the State's new system already increased driver license transaction times by 24%, but the system outages are what's putting the biggest burden on our workload. The State has received our feedback on efficiency measures and now we've made it clear that the root cause of the outages must be identified by FLHSMV and fixed as soon as possible in the interest of our customers. This is happening in every county throughout the state. We cannot keep having issues like this with a State system and maintain the level of service the public deserves."
View the official response from FLHSMV, which acknowledged the service interruptions and outages and cites "extensive troubleshooting efforts" to correct the issues.
