Kathy Schroeder, an assistant manager in the Customer Solutions and Associate Development Department, and Michelle Leeson, a paralegal and collections specialist for the Field Services Department, reeled in accolades for their outstanding display of the Manatee County Tax Collector’s core value of Community and Social Responsibility. The Lillie Robinson Humanitarian Award was named after the late Lillie Robinson, a longtime employee that volunteered countless hours and kept the wellbeing of her community close to her heart.
"This award honors those who are positively impacting the lives of others through their volunteerism, and Kathy and Michelle are out there making a difference," said Ken Burton Jr., tax collector. "This year we are proud to honor both of these nominees for their impact in our community."
Kathy, who has placed a focus on serving her work family, was recognized for bringing her skills of baking and crafting to help others. On her own time, Kathy hand-crafted and donated hundreds of homemade masks for staff, their families, and children. She also creates custom blankets for those welcoming home new babies and continues to provide homemade meals for her team.
Michelle's nomination outlined hundreds of volunteer hours logged for serving at her church. Michelle has found her calling in the children's program and assists with community events that have provided backpacks and school supplies, free eye exams, and food for school-age children who are in need.
"Lillie [Robinson] was such an amazing person. It's an honor to be considered in the same category as her and to receive this award alongside Michelle Leeson," said Kathy Schroeder.
