Ken Burton Jr, Manatee County Tax Collector
Overview
In Florida, property taxes are handled by two agencies: the property appraiser's office, which assesses the taxes, and the tax collector's office (our office), which collects them. The property appraiser sends the TRIM (Truth in Millage) notice each year, and the tax collector sends the tax bill.
Real estate property taxes in Florida are annual taxes based on the assessed value of land, buildings, and other real property, with taxes levied by local taxing authorities. The tax collector bills and collects these taxes, then distributes the funds to the appropriate local governments and taxing authorities.
Tangible Personal Property (TPP) is everything other than real estate that is used in a business or rental property. It includes furniture, fixtures, equipment, supplies, leasehold improvements, tools, machinery, signs, leased equipment, and any other equipment used in a business or to earn income.
